Cozy Juicy Real is a team building experience that kindles fun, authentic, and truly connecting interactions. It is an in-person and virtual board game as well as a team building exercise that can be hosted by an in-house or outside facilitator. The Cozy Juicy Real founders, Jed and Sophia, wanted me and my team to focus on marketing the virtual board game for teams in the workplace.
We had a three person team, brought together by General Assembly. We split the work into two sections, research and design, where I was the research lead and was overseen by a project manager and the third team member lead the design phase.
Our scope was to redesign the Cozy Juicy Real website. They already had a great product and had worked with a previous cohort at General Assembly to design a virtual game, however we were asked to come up with a solution for a website that could bring it all together.
We started with a 13 person list that provided to us which encompassed previous users of both the virtual game, as well as the physical game. We found a few research participants of our own and began by conducting 16 user interviews and usability tests of the current Cozy Juicy Real site.
Some of our users facilitated the game themselves, some of those same users hired an outside facilitator and others were the outside facilitator who was trained in conducting team building activities such as Cozy Juicy Real.
Our users across the board said the number one thing that would decide if the game was successful would be whether or not the game met their team building goals. In other words, outcomes.
We found cost was the next most limiting factor next to outcomes. In addition the game needed to be customizable to take the right amount of time for the right number of players.
Our users were unsure of how the game worked and wanted to see a demonstration. They expressed confusion as this was not addressed when they first visited the site.
The Cozy Juicy Real site had several contact forms available to fill out on the same page. Our users were concerned about giving out their email address with little context to understand what they would be given in return.
The "Teams" page was a catch all for anyone interested in any version of the digital game. Users found many of the same promises repeated and reworded as they went down the page.
The Cozy Juicy Real site exhibited a list of clients who they had worked with for the virtual game in the work place. This was reassuring for our users.
Similar to the client list mentioned above, users found the testimonials to be both inspirational and informative. They could read real world reactions to the game which allowed them to better understand how the game might connect to their team building goals.
Our user journey tells the story of users using the virtual game provided by Cozy Juicy Real for the workplace and personal settings, as well as the physical board game which is available for purchase on their website. We found users had their ups and downs with both experiences, however the game itself was consistently a high point in the user journey.
Our scope quickly narrowed following our user research. We found team builders and event organizers primarily wanted the virtual game experience, not the board game.
Sam manages a team of people and regularly holds team building activities for their team. They have facilitated events themselves but sometimes they don't want the added responsibility and like to hire a third party facilitator.
Sam needs to easily find key information about the game and see all options/versions of the game in order to decide if it meets their criteria and team building goals.
Faceted navigation allows for user to narrow down their search including a section to select the format you wish to play the game.

A requirement of the Cozy Juicy Real online experience was funneling users into two possible directions: Teams and Friends. An image of the gameboard was chosen to further familiarize users with the game in advance of their experience with Cozy Juicy Real online.
Cozy Juicy Real has a great story. Teambuilders Jed and Sophia struck out to make a more connecting corporate experience for teams during the COVID-19 pandemic. Teams had gone remote and they saw an opportunity for a virtual game that would cross boundaries and positively impact the workplace.
The facilitation page consists of tiles that each showcase a given facilitator. During testing our users liked being able to see who would be leading the game and appreciated the option of selecting that facilitator themselves.
Our high fidelity prototype was the subject of our final presentation to Cozy Juicy Real. With our research and extensive user interviews they felt confident in their ability to move forward and continue improving their site.
